At first thought, the idea of auditing a business’ social media sites on day one of class was a bit daunting considering I had yet to take any courses on social media. However, it seemed to go quite smoothly for a number of reasons I believe. Having taken a handful of marketing courses already within my Sports Management and Marketing major was definitely helpful. These concepts, added with current knowledge most of us already have with social media helped to greatly increase some ideas for the business to move forward with. The business that my team worked with was AirMethods heating & cooling, who are a home repair and installation company based in Columbus and Fremont currently. We met with Steve, who is the Vice President, and even though he wasn’t all too knowledgeable on their social media platforms, I believe speaking with our team helped him gain some added respect for what social media can do to help spread his brand. I feel there wasn’t all too many surprises, besides going into the workshop without quite knowing who we were speaking to and the format. However, I definitely feel that entering such as a team aspect helped for the students to get to know each other a little bit on day one, as well as having more thoughts and ideas put into a collective agreement. For myself, even though I feel pretty proficient with social media, it was nice to get fresh ears and ideas from my fellow students on just their personal take and thoughts from a marketing perspective. All in all, our team was able to gain a good rapport with Steve and give him some good ideas to take back to the business and his daughter, who actually runs their social media sites. We came to a collective agreement that he would like for us to come down to their sites and talk with his actual technicians on what they can do to spread the social media brands to their customers. We came up with the idea of having their employees ensure they are giving out the business cards to customers that includes their website and Facebook pages. He explained their encourage their customers to give them ratings and reviews on the job done, and I mentioned how they could ask the customer at that point if they would also want to tag the company in their posts of the job at hand. Going forward, I definitely feel that it could be beneficial for the class groups as well as the companies involved to have us at their sites to really sit down with a larger group from the company to help mesh ideas.
